What Metal Roof Is Right For You?

Galvanized or Aluminum?

For coastal area or high traffic areas with a lot of pollution, aluminum roofing is definitely the way to go. Most galvanized warranties are voided if installed less than 1,500 away from saltwater. So why not just buy aluminum? Aluminum is definitely more expensive than galvanized roofing.

Galvanized Metal Roofing

Galvanized steel roofing is metal coated with a thin layer of zinc that is bonded with the metal. This is called electro galvanized. The coating allows for oxidization of the zinc rather than the metal roof which keeps it from rusting faster than non-galvanized steel. Keep in mind though, whenever there is a cut made to the metal it is no longer galvanized there and is exposed to the elements as raw metal. This is one reason that aluminum roofing is the appropriate choice for coastal locations.

Aluminum Metal Roofing

Aluminum roofing is more expensive than galvanized roofing, but is recommended for coastal areas including residential, commercial or industrial roofing applications where a long lasting roof is a necessity.

Copper Roofing

Copper roofing comes in a variety of styles and can be customized. Copper is safe to install around saltwater areas, is a green roof, and is lightweight.
